This vast and diverse geographical region of Brazil consists of lowland savannas and tropical forests, lethargic rivers and lakes; and thousands of miles of rich agricultural land. It is the site of Pantanal, the largest savannah in the world, and also the site of the futuristic city of Brasília, the capital of Brazil. Built in the early 1960's, this city has blossomed into a model new-age metropolis. Temperatures in the plateau range between the mid-sixties and the mid-eighties and the rainy season is between November and March. The average rainfall exceeds sixty inches per year.
