The mansion, situated between tijuca forest and São Conrado beach, covering an area of 8,000 square meters of luxuriant greenery, Casa das Canoas offers a well-privileged panorama of pedra da Gavea Mountain. Its colonial style architecture is reminiscent of old Rio. The construction materials used are authentic of the period. The decoration includes typical Brazilian style furniture and piece of arts. Casa das Canoas is located in an old plantation site originally belonging to the Niemeyer family since the closing of the XIX century, where today is the São Conrado section of southern Rio. Casa das Canoas, originally built as a private residence with its fashionable salons, its beautiful tropical garden and its cozy and refined atmosphere, is today a setting for cultural events. The Niemeyer family were the owners of the whole São Conrado area, the great father of the family, Mr. Conrado jaco Niemeyer, built the Niemeyer avenue (the one where Sheraton hotel is located) from 1929 inaugurated in 1932, Mr. Niemeyer subdivided his real state into building lots to value the Niemeyer Ave. He also built the church of São Conrado and gave it to the government as a donation to the city historical heritage. His son built the house of Casa das Canoas in 1950 and gilda Niemeyer, the actual owner is his great grand daughter, gilda is cousin of Mr. Oscar Niemeyer, who is famous for several architectural projects including the giant construction of Brasilia, our capital. Mrs. Gilda Niemeyer does not live at Casa das Canoas anymore however she lives close by and can be there when group comes, also she can give a small speech on the history of the São Conrado area and her family (she speaks French, Italian, English), a display of old pictures of the place and of the construction of Niemeyer avenue, the church and São Conrado area can be organized at the house. Space only for cocktail, too small for dinner. House has small rooms and group would be divided out & inside the house to be seated for dinner.

VILLA RISO, wich has always been part of the social and cultural life of Rio de Janeiro, occupies an area of 22.000 m2. The house was constructed around 1700, and served as headquartes of the farm of Sao Jose da Alagoinha da Gavea. Its land went from Gavea to Jacarepagua and Tijuca, and was known as "Morgadio de Asseca", due to the title of the proprietor, the Viscount of Asseca. The original millhouse is now the Gavea Golf Club. Six Imperial Palm Trees, planted by Emperor Pedro II himself, are until today testimony of a glorious past. In Villa Riso's library, Counsillor Ferreira Vianna, minister of justice of the 2nd. Empire, wrote the text of the law wich abolished slavery in Brazil.
In 1932, the house was acquired by Dr. Oswaldo Riso, a great admirer of Brazilian art. His soirees, concerts and exhibitio were an important part of Rio's cultural calendar.
Following the motto "Tradition, Art and Culture", his daughter, pianist Cesarina Riso recovered its original highlights, received modern complements and became suitable for the most refined dinners, fashions shows, conventions, wedding ceremonies and cocktail parties. The Catering service is also available for reception outside the premises. An Art Gallery, with permanent exhibitions of Brazilian artists, offers a selection of exclusive gifts. Valet parking is a standard service. The tropical gardens, the colonial architecture and the rare colection of antiques make Villa Riso an unique option for receptions in Rio.
